5th grade at Owingsville Elementary School is taught in a team-teaching environment to prepare students to be successful in Middle School. As such, your child will have two teachers this year and will rotate throughout the day, visiting both teachers who are in charge of different content areas.
Meet Mrs. Dennis!
Hello! I am Beth Dennis and I am very excited for the upcoming
year! This year will be my tenth year teaching at Owingsville Elementary
School. Throughout my teaching career I have taught two years in third grade,
four years in fourth, and this will be my fourth year in fifth grade. It is
always exciting to meet new families and make lasting bonds with the students.
I am originally from Bell County, Kentucky but now reside in Mt.
Sterling. I have a close knit family that visits often and your child will hear
about often. In the past two years my life has taken on great changes including
marriage to my husband Josh Dennis, the purchase of our first home, and
remodeling. I am a graduate of Morehead State University where I earned my
Bachelor’s in Education, Masters in Elementary Education, and my Rank I in
Administration.
I will have your child for half of his/her day at O.E.S. Your
child will receive reading, writing, and language arts instruction while in my
room. I look forward to sharing with your child my love of reading through
several wonderful books such as “Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry”, “Number the
Stars”, and other Newberry Medal honors. During my class, your child will work
on their writing skills by publishing several pieces including a narrative,
informational piece, and an opinion piece. Your child will also learn various
grammar rules, parts of speech, and have weekly spelling test. On Monday
students will be given a spelling pretest. If your child scores a 90% or better
on the spelling test he/she does not have to take the test on Friday OR have
spelling homework for the week. Your child will do weekly spelling ONLY over
the words he/she missed. If your child forgets which homework assignments
he/she can do for each night, no problem it is on the website!
Meet Mrs. Elliott!
My name is Jessica Elliott and I am a 5th grade teacher here at
Owingsville Elementary School. This will be my eighth year of teaching, all of
which that have occurred in a 4th or 5th grade classroom at O.E.S. This coming
school year (2016-2017), I will be responsible for teaching your child Math,
Science, and Social Studies, which I love!
I am originally from and still live in Morehead, Kentucky. I
graduated from Morehead State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary
Education (P-5) with an emphasis in Mathematics and I received my Master's
Degree in Teacher Leadership from the University of the Cumberlands. In December, I received my Educational Specialist Degree (Ed.S) in Administration - Leadership at the University of the Cumberlands. My husband, John Elliott, also
teaches at Bath County High School as a Special Education Teacher. I have a 4 year old son, Jackson Connor, who is in pre-school, is the highlight of my life, into
everything, and definitely keeps me on my toes!
I LOVE teaching and it truly is my calling. I am constantly in
search of new and exciting ideas and activities to incorporate in my classroom,
both to motivate and teach my students. In my classroom, we will use a variety of activities, including Interactive Notebooks, simulations, role-play, integrated technology, and much more to keep learning the content engaging. I strive to keep my classroom a
pleasant, neat, organized, and safe learning environment for your child to not
only have tons of fun, but also learn as much as possible throughout the school
year. I look forward to working with my students and their parents and families.
It's going to be a great school year!
